I saved a trip in My trips, and it's showing me prices that I would like to buy under "Fares." When I click on "buy," however, the prices that it showed me there aren't in the list, nor is the blue price on the right. I've been clicking everything in sight, and have not found any of the lower prices that My Trips is showing me, just the median prices that I could find on any other travel site.
If these fares have "come and gone," then why are they being shown to me? I need to buy a ticket NOW, not from three weeks ago. I don't understand the purpose of it, esp. when it's SAYING that the last check was a few minutes ago, but I STILL CAN'T FIND the price it's telling me.
I'd really like some help with this, real-time if possible. I read some of your articles and am interested in your services, but if this is just another aggregator, I may a well stick with Kayak.

Thank you for your message. The prices shown on "My Trips" are the absolute lowest published price, however, based on the behavior you have described, there are no seats at that price.
We would be happy to help you shop for the best price for your trip. Ideally, if you know generally when you want to fly, our When-to-Fly Flexible Calendar search, to shop by price. The flexible calendar search will quickly search hundreds of date and length of stay combinations to find the best price for your trip.
Again, thank you, I hope this helps!

I have the same concern and I hate to be baited by a low fare that doesn't exist. I have used farecompare before and liked it then, when did they start the bait and switch?
-
I think they've always been a bait and switch...to get you on horrible flights that ultimately cost much more.

Sorry, FareCompare Customer Service, no, it DOES NOT help! AT ALL!!!!!
I have the exact same issue. When I am redirected to orbitz or cheap tickets, the flight combination doesnt even exist there!!!! Somebody from the company has to provide a better explanation than "there are no seats at that price". Especially when, if you search for the exact same flight half an hour later, you still get the same good rates you got the frist time, which, according to your answer, were "no longer available"! What is it, are WE ALL having a simultaneous, universal, endless bout of bad luck when trying to book a flight?
Completely agree with Nance Lyons; I dont need to know about fares that are not available to me then. Is this some kind of scam?-
Bait and Switch is against the law. We should all file a complaint with the FCC, but they do jack, so what's the point?

It's a bait and switch site that funnels you into lousy flights that cost more...

Yes, it is exciting to see those trips that have one stop, short layover, and you click it, and nothing happens, then there is a lot of looking for another flight, and it ends up to have weird, out of the way layovers for hours and arrive in the middle of the night and it is still $100 at least more than the originally suggested ticket...bait and switch is what it is, and I won't use it again.

I'm glad I found these messages so I know that I'm not the only one seeing this. I clicked on the search thing where their little calendar pops up with prices to better choose cheaper days and I've yet to see one where the actually "searched for" price is even remotely close to the amount on the calendar. It'd be on thing if they were 10% off here and there, but they haven't been within 50% on my searches.
The alerts are the same way, but the calendar is searching within second of me picking the dates so saying "those seats are now gone" seems a bit unreasonable given several searches. -

I have given up on this 'service'...the reason: it is nothing more than a BAIT AND SWITCH outfit...they WANT you to end up taking the flight that costs much more, and has you stopping over for unreasonable lengths of time...what is in it for them? I wondered a little about this, and could only think that through the vast speed of the itnernet they are shoving flights down our throats that we would never ever chose, at prices the airline you end up with, could hardly ever fill.
The whole thing left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Kind of like using your rewards money to purchase tickets that are SURPRISE about the same amount as your reward dollars more than tickets from another airline.
So I warned all my friends, and asked them to repost to their friends a warning that Fare Compare is a bait and switch bunch of liars and never, ever to use them...
Thank you for your answer to my inquirey. -

I have to agree, minutes after receiving an ALERT Email, I clicked through and the fare simply does not exist. It even shows on the calendar but doesn't exist. This is extremely frustrating as it seems to be happening more and more.
